Jeremy Gear, MA, LMHC

Master of Arts, Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Location(s): Everett

I have 15 years of experience working in the human services where I learned to help individuals struggling with complex psychological and developmental difficulties increase their quality of life. Since 2017, I have been practicing psychotherapy with adults as well as some children and families where I continue to help individuals identify and build on strengths while moving toward a greater sense of autonomy. I approach therapy with deep care and a genuine desire to assist individuals on their path toward personal development. Therapy and human development in particular is a process of increasing awareness of self and our relationship to others while expanding the horizon of what is possible in all areas of life.

While I am proficient at drawing from different Evidence Based Practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness, this is grounded in a Relational Psychodynamic perspective. I also draw on ideas from depth psychology, existential psychology, and developmental psychology. I believe it is important to address the whole person (physical, emotional, mental, relational, and spiritual).

I work with individual adults and couples of all ages struggling with depression, anxiety, interpersonal difficulties, communication, boundaries, life transitions, spirituality/religion, questions of meaning and purpose, addictions, substance use and abuse, codependency, impulse control, emotional regulation, and trauma. I also explore specific topics in the context of working with men such as masculinity, roles, vulnerability, shame, sexuality, and childhood abuse.

I hold an M.A. in Psychology from Seattle University and a B.A. from University of Washington. I am trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT) Trauma Informed Care including specific issues related to Male Trauma. I am also committed to ongoing personal and professional development as well as practicing and modeling the ideas and skills introduced in therapy.
