Medicaid
Cedar Valley Counseling holds all 5 local Medicaid contracts. Community Health Plan, United Healthcare, Wellpoint, Molina and Coordinated Care. I would like to share some of the things I have learned over my 20 years of working with the good people utilizing their Medicaid benefits for counseling services.
1. Medicaid members are children, teens, and adults of all ages and backgrounds.
2. Medicaid members are seeking a way to improve their emotional, physical and mental health
3. Medicaid members are often working people. Businesses are not mandated to provide healthcare to employees if they employ fewer than 50 people.
4. Often Medicaid members are paying a contribution to have their Medicaid benefits- this is due to the expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.
5. Quite a few Medicaid recipients are students.
6. Quite a few Medicaid recipients are self-employed.
7. Medicaid is an affordable way to address barriers to employment. People get stronger and healthier and better able to contribute as parents, employees and human beings.
8. I take an annual mandated “Fraud, Abuse and Waste” training every year to maintain my groups ability to serve Medicaid members.
9. My business is audited often as I have to prove we saw the member, diagnosed properly and provided adequate levels of responsible treatment.
10. Most Fraud (in my humble opinion) is committed by PROVIDERS, not MEMBERS.
I know it’s tough, but please consider Medicaid access when you vote. I urge you NOT to vote for any candidate that plans to cut Medicaid benefits to your neighbor, family member, yourself or anyone. I believe as human beings, passing through this world, should provide any human being access to medical care. Take care and Be well.
