Hello and welcome! My name is Karen Aparicio, and I am a counseling intern working towards a Master of Arts in Counseling degree through Northwestern University (a CACREP accredited institution).
Therapy can be a complex and emotional process. As your counselor, I will help you navigate this experience by meeting you where you are in your emotional development, providing you with unconditional positive regard, and validating and affirming your unique gifts. I support various traumas, including grief, divorce, significant life transitions, depression, anxiety-related symptoms, and substance abuse recovery.
My overarching philosophy is that the relationship between therapist and client is more important to a positive therapy outcome than employing any one type of method, so I use various theories and approaches to meet my client’s needs. I often use a “here and now” approach where the emphasis is placed on understanding present feelings and interpersonal reactions as they occur in the therapeutic hour.
